Research Opportunities

Numerous local and overseas research opportunities are
made available for students to benefit from hands-on
research experience, both in terms of their personal growth
and intellectual development. Two major research programs,
Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) and
University Student Sponsorship Programme in Wildlife
Conservation (USSP)
, are run annually to engage students
in academic research.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

UROP, a HKUST’s signature program for undergraduate students to engage in academic research, helps them develop a broad and insightful perspective of their areas of interest. UROP is now offered in all three terms to allow students to immerse themselves in a variety of tailor-made research projects under the supervision of world-class researchers.

For more information and application, please visit the website of UROP.

University Student Sponsorship Programme in Wildlife Conservation (USSP)

Since 2007, the School has collaborated with the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Hong Kong to co-organize USSP. Under this Program, biological students are sponsored to travel overseas to gain first-hand research experience for conservation projects, while contributing to wildlife conservation at the same time. The Program is open for application usually in October every year.
